At Seton School in Manassas, the culmination of scientific exploration and discovery is showcased annually through its mandatory science fair participation, a prerequisite for all students desiring to graduate. This immersive experiential learning, particularly emphasized during the freshman year of biology class, culminates in a grand event that took place on January 24 under the new stewardship of Charles Chalkley, the biology instructor. His mentoring was pivotal in guiding the students’ projects from mere ideas to fruition.

Months of diligent preparation led the students to present their investigative projects to a panel of judges. The competition spanned nine categories, including medicine, health, biochemistry, and microbiology, reflecting a broad spectrum of scientific inquiry. Despite the competitive spirit, a sense of pride and accomplishment was evident among the participants as they eagerly awaited the results during the closing ceremony.

Nicholas Moore, a bright freshman, emerged as the grand victor with his innovative engineering project, a controlled hydropneumatic piston. Among the impressive array of projects, Clare Judge, in the seventh grade, stood out by investigating the impact of colored lights on plant growth, thereby securing the junior fair’s grand prize. Alongside Clare, fifteen other seventh graders were acknowledged for their exceptional work, reflecting the high level of preparation and enthusiasm among the participants.
