Transforming Utah Tech University with Cutting-Edge Extron AV Solutions
At the heart of St. George, Utah, Utah Tech University, previously known as Dixie State University, has embarked on an ambitious journey to redefine its educational landscape. By incorporating state-of-the-art AV technology into its new Science, Engineering, and Technology (SET) building spanning 163,000 square feet, the institution has significantly upgraded its educational facilities. This initiative extends beyond the novel SET structure, embracing a comprehensive AV standardization mission that has modernized 175 rooms across 31 edifices with sophisticated Extron AV equipment designed for streamlined remote management.
Main Objectives and Strategies
Unveiling the Standardization Initiative
The primary goal of this wide-ranging standardization endeavor was to ensure consistency across various educational spaces within the university. Senior Audiovisual Administrator Shaun Hayes emphasized the importance of providing a reliable and consistent AV experience in every room. Central to achieving this is the adoption of GlobalViewer Enterprise, a robust backend AV management tool that enhances the uptime of AV systems significantly.
Choice of Extron: A Calculated Decision
The decision to partner with Extron was driven by its superior AV system control and remote support capabilities. These features have simplified the processes involved in designing, configuring, and managing elaborate room setups for AV professionals, according to Hayes. The convenience and efficiency offered by Extron’s solutions were critical factors in their selection as the AV equipment supplier.
Implementation and Application
SET Building’s AV Architecture
In the illustrious SET building, both standard and larger lecture classrooms have been fitted with AV systems centered around the DTP CrossPoint matrix switcher, which includes an integrated audio amplifier and control processor. Operation of these systems is facilitated through a TouchLink Pro touchpanel, allowing users to seamlessly control AV selections. Connectivity is versatile, with provisions for wired inputs as well as wireless connections via ShareLink Pro presentation systems. This standardized classroom design has been adeptly replicated and scaled to meet the needs of the campus-wide retrofit.
Innovative Applications in Specialized Spaces
In two advanced anatomy labs within the SET building, the utilization of a NAV Pro AV-over-IP system enables 16 dissection stations to share video content efficiently. This ensures that all students can view detailed procedures from any station without the need to physically move closer. For collaborative endeavors, conference rooms incorporate DTP switching and ShareLink Pro wireless sharing technologies. Moreover, eight private study rooms located around the student lounges in the SET building are equipped with HC 402 meeting collaboration systems, enhancing their utility for idea exchange and academic collaboration.
Utah Tech University’s installation of Extron AV equipment marks a significant step forward in creating a technologically advanced educational environment. Not only does this initiative pave the way for more engaging and immersive learning experiences, but it also demonstrates the institution’s commitment to maintaining a high standard of education through technological innovation.
